Tiffany & Cindy Lesson Plan
Overview
The lesson plan will cover five days of both science concepts and intriguing activities. The content will focus on Newton’s three laws of motion, force, and friction. Three days will include a law of motion accompanied by an activity which illustrates the law, and one additional day will discuss friction and will be accompanied by an experiment.
On day one the first law of motion will be covered followed by an activity called “Start Sliding” which will show students how the first law works. On the second day, he teacher will cover friction and force. The teacher will provide students with content about the two topics and then illustrate the content through the experiment “Science Friction”. During the third day, students will cover the second law of motion. The students will complete an experiment called “To Accelerate or Not to Accelerate, that is the Question”; this experiment will show students how mass and force effects acceleration. On the fourth day, the students will focus on the third law of motion. The teacher will show a video with information about the law. Students will then engage in two experiments, “Get a Jet Going” and “Faster than the Speed of Lightning, or Not”. On the final day, the teacher will end the lesson by giving the students an assessment based on the knowledge they have gained throughout the last week.
During the lessons, the students will be engaging in inquiry based learning while making observations during experiments. Students will also likely exhibit curiosity through the teacher’s questions and demonstrations. The students will gather evidence using mathematics during experiments to calculate speed and distance. Students will also propose hypotheses during experiments, but they may have to change their explanations based on new evidence acquired after the experiments.
